§01Context
Omegle closed in November 2023, and the text mode closed with it. Most of what replaced it went straight for video, which is the half that makes money — so people who only ever wanted the typing were left picking through video sites for a text box.
The thing worth being precise about is what you are actually missing. Usually it is not the site; it is a specific shape of conversation: one stranger, no audience, no history, and a button that ends it instantly. That shape is reproducible, and it is what this page is about.
What no site can give back is the particular crowd that used to be there at 2am. Anyone promising you that is selling something.

§03Text only
The mistake most replacements make is treating text as the waiting room. Here it is a mode you can stay in: no camera is requested, nothing turns one on, and nobody treats a typed conversation as a failed video one.
Practically, that means the same things it always meant — you can do it at work, on a train, in a room with other people in it, or on a laptop whose webcam has been taped over for years.
§04Random
Nobody picks anybody. You tap, the site pairs you with a person who is free at that moment, and if it is not going anywhere you tap again. The lack of choice is the feature — it is why you end up talking to people you would never have selected from a list.
There is one real difference from the site you remember: no interest tags. The match is by availability rather than by keyword, which makes the first message matter more. The random text chat page has the openers that tend to get answered.
§05Access
No username, no email, nothing to confirm. That was true of the site you are replacing and it is true here — you tap start and you are in the queue. What the site does and does not keep is set out plainly on the anonymous chat page, including the parts that are not flattering.
§06Later
The old order was backwards for most people: video first, and if you did not want to be seen you were in the wrong queue. Here the typing comes first and the camera is a decision you make afterwards, once you know whether the conversation is worth it.
